I'm Evil, I Don't Like Mother's Day

I know it's hard to believe.  I am a Mom, I should like this holiday.  A day when I don't have to cook dinner, clean etc plus I get presents.  But honestly, I don't like it...anymore.  I used to love the day.  It was always a day for me to celebrate my mom and grandmas.  Even when I became older, it was always more about celebrating them than it was about how wonderful being a mom was for me.

Truthfully, I would rather be with the single women or those that have not had children than spend it at church. I think we should be allowed to go hide in one of the classrooms and not have to be part of the whole ordeal. Don't even get me started on the geraniums (I hate geraniums!), horrible CDs (I have several that have never been opened) and candy (I don't mind this, but I don't like the mint flavor they always give out) that they try to give you in celebration of "Motherhood".  Thank Heaven I don't have to be in Relief Society.

Since my mom passed away in 2008, I have hated this holiday.  It has now become a day that I reflect on how much she means to me. I never make it through Sacrament Meeting without having to leave. So being all weeping and runny nose on a day when I am supposed to be happy makes others a bit...concerned.  Let's call it what it is, people think I am nuts. It is also a day when I don't usually feel like explaining why I am crying and don't want to be there.

Simply put, Mother's Day reminds me of the Mom that I still miss every day so much that it hurts.  The poems and stories that my Grandma Scott used to tell and visiting my Grandma Clausse.  I miss them and this blasted holiday only makes it hurt that much more.

So to all those that don't enjoy the holiday coming up this Sunday for whatever reason,  I understand. It is all right to struggle with the holiday.  We can all meet up in an empty classroom and talk about something else, maybe Fictional Hotties or something!

I Need An Alice

Have you every really thought of the name Alice?  Seriously here folks, there are a lot of "famous" Alice's out there.  And I would love to have them all at my house.

First, the obvious Alice, Alice Nelson from "The Brady Bunch".  How great would it be to have two extra hands when trying to manage a busy house?  I have 4 kids so I would give my right arm for her to help with cleaning bathrooms, laundry, ironing and homework.

Second, Alice from Alice Cullen from the "Twilight" series.  Anyone who knows me, knows how uncrafty and unfashion savvy I am.  I would love to have her there to plan my wardrobe, go clothes shopping (which I hate), and plan the kids birthday parties etc.

Finally, I would like to have Alice Gaspers from "A League of Their Own".  She can teach my kids that "There is no crying in baseball!" and in several other things as well.

Here are a few other "famous" Alices:
  • Alice Horton (Days of our Lives) - Remembering my teenage years there.
  • Alice Hyatt (Alice) -Where I learned the phrase, "Kiss My Grits!"
  • Alice Kramden (The Honeymooners) - "You're going to the moon, Alice" and "Baby, you're the greatest."
  • Alice Elcott (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) - Learned all about the Lonsome Polecat and the Sobbin' Women.
  • Alice Coleman (Where the Red Fern Grows) - We need one tear jerker in the list.
  • Alice (Alice In Wonderland) - The first book that made me understand what an acid trip would be like.
  • Alice Munro (Last of the Mohicans) - One of my favorite books!
Now I will admit that there is one Alice that I am not sure I want to come to my Alice party.  I would be too afraid that I would find eyeliner on the couch.  But then again, we would get to listen to the music I listened to when I was younger.   Oh wait, I would have to explain it to my kids and watch their blank expressions as I try to explain records and cassette tapes.
Alice Cooper -  Proved men can could wear make-up and be Alice's too.
